-Wandering in the Island of Fire-

The unexpected swirl of traveling takes it turn in a one day road trip in the Island of Fire. The synergy is in a different level.

I had a quick work visit in Dumaguete City, and guess what work isn’t stopping these feet in wandering.

Siquijor Island is an island like nothing else, it has it’s own unique characteristics that makes it beautiful and alive.

The time is limited but the memories created in this beautiful island is special and will always be remembered,

As I have said in my last blog there’s a different energy when you open your eyes to the world, the learnings I’ve learned from the classroom is a just 10% of the actual experience I have done. If you are planning on a quick visit in Central Visayas make sure to visit the Island of Fire, you won’t regret it.

We started our day 6:30 AM, we had to catch the earliest ferry going to Siquijor from Dumaguete City and tickets cost 234.00 PHP. You won’t get lost since the port is very accessible via trike. The ferry ride is approximately thirty minutes to one hour depends on the ferry of your choice, Check out the ferry schedules and ticket fares HERE .

Finally after an hour ride, we have reached the Island of Fire, first thing we did was to rent a motorcycle , like other islands in the country, everything is accessible via motorcycles, again don’t worry because there are a lot of establishments offering motorcycles for rent, for a day the rent was approximately 300.00 PHP.

We had limited time so we decided to explore half of Siquijor and we’ll discover the latter in a different trip.

Century Old Balete Tree

Once we got our motorcycle , we headed out to explore the island, first off we wen’t to the Century Old Balete Tree, This 400-year-old Balete is located in the barrio of Campalanas in Lazi and is considered the oldest and largest in the province of Siquijor. The fact that a natural spring flows just beneath the trees adds to the enchantment. Locals have no idea where or why the water runs, but they do know that it is clean and safe. The cool spring water cascades from the tree into the man-made pool, where fish swim. If you need a quick foot spa, simply dip your feet in and the fish doctors will nibble around your feet for undesirable skin. This tourist attraction is free and open to the public, however donations for its upkeep are appreciated.

The Old Balete Tree is easily accessible because its entrance is located along the road. Tours throughout Siquijor will include the Old Balete Tree because it is one of the island’s most famous features (no worries there). Getting to the Old Balete Tree, on the other hand, will take a few more journeys for lone or small group travelers. The tourist attraction is located in the town of Lazi along the Siquijor Circumferential Road.

St Isidro Labrador Church

Siquijor, in contrast to its Witchcraft and Healers or Mystic Island, is actually rather a pious island. Locals are concerned with fulfilling their biblical commitments and, of course, safeguarding the structural integrity of their churches. The well known St. Isidoro de Labrador Church, or Lazi Church for short, is one of the oldest churches on the island.

Cambugahay Falls

In general, the best time to visit Siquijor island is between November and April, the island’s dry season. However, when it comes to the finest time of day to visit the Cambugahay falls, we always recommend going as early as possible. To avoid the crowds, arrive at the opening time of 7 a.m. Because the waterfall is one of the most famous tourist destinations on Siquijor, you can expect both residents and visitors.

The Cambugahay Falls are fed by natural springs, which accounts for the deep blue color. It runs three kilometers downstream, creating several gorgeous lagoons before emptying into Lazi Bay.

Paliton Beach

Although it is one of the most popular tourist locations on the island, it is easy to overlook from the main street due to the lack of signage. Fortunately, the people are all really friendly and eager to put you in the proper route.

Paliton Beach is regarded as one of the nicest beaches on Siquijor, thanks to its gleaming white sands and palm-fringed shoreline. This is a must-see Siquijor tourism attraction!

I know one day isn’t enough to explore this beautiful island, one thing I learned on this quick trip is that Time Isn’t Going to Stop for you, it won’t let you go back to something that’s done but instead it will let you realize that life is short and memories are forever, so if you’re planning to take a trip even just for a day DO IT, if it helps you heal definitely GO FOR IT.

Thank you for reading my blog!
